Rubik’s Cube Competition at Destiny USA

Are you a Rubik’s Cube speed-solver? Test your skills this Saturday, April 14 against other cube solvers at The Muzium’s Speed Solving Competition. The 1st place winner will win a gift card for $250, 2nd place $100 and 3rd and 4th place will each get a Destiny USA Summer Fun Pass voucher ($50 value).

Registration for the Cube Competition is $5. All competitors will receive FREE entry into The Muzium’s limited-run Beyond Rubik’s Cube exhibit, a FREE $5 game play card to All-Star Alley & Tavern, and access to the Cube Competition participant reception. Register before the competition by visiting The Muzium or calling 315-466-6007.

Beyond Rubik’s Cube Competition Details:

  • The competition is an unofficial solo public 3 x 3 speed-solving competition
  • Registration opens up at 12 p.m.
  • All contestants must be registered and signed in on or before 1 p.m. to participated in the competition.
  • Participants can bring their own cubes or use designated exhibit cubes
  • Participants must know how to solve a Rubik’s cube
  • The competition will include a Competition Judge, Assistant Judge, and a Designated Scrambler
  • All contestants must register, pay, and complete a sign-up sheet before the start of the competition to participate
  • All contestants will participate in a qualifying round, where every cuber get’s to solve 2 times
  • Brackets will be based on taking the best time from the qualifying round, then from there, we rank everyone in bracket form.
  • Brackets will be based on qualifying times in a single elimination format
  • Each “match” is between 2 cubers that solve 3 times and the best times of each cuber will determine elimination.
  • Each cube solver will have 5-minute maximum time to solve.
Beyond Rubik’s Cube Competition Rules:
  • Be respectful & courteous (no profanity)
  • Participants can sit or stand
  • Participants must not distract other participants nor taunt
  • No items on the competition table other than speed mats & cubes (solving notes could be allowed if we desire)
  • Warnings/penalties will add 5 seconds to contestants time
  • Cubes should not be damaged or “marked” if cube falls apart or leaves solved state. Once finalized there are no do-overs
  • Participants may be disqualified for cheating, failure to comply with rules, or for being generally disruptive to the competition
About the Exhibit:

Beyond Rubik’s Cube is the world’s first museum exhibition all about the Rubik’s Cube puzzle. The Destiny USA exhibit boasts 7,000 sq ft of games, puzzles, history, art, and engineering, all inspired by Ernő Rubik’s best-selling masterpiece. Whether you’re a puzzle buff, nostalgic about the Cube and its history, or just looking for a fun and challenging way to spend a day, Beyond Rubik’s Cube will reveal something amazing you’ve never seen before.

Beyond Rubik’s Cube is a multi-sensory experience in three exhibit zones, Invent, Play, and Inspire, visitors can examine first-hand how a small puzzle became, and remains, a phenomenon that resonates with a global audience and connects to fields across the spectrum of human creativity.

Play

At Robot Command, guests learn to program a robot to run a maze.

Invent

Tessellation Maker is an interactive table that allows guests to work with others to create patterns across a digital screen.

Inspire

A Cube-solving robot solves guests’ scrambled Cubes at Robot Race.

The Muzium, located across from Margaritaville on the 3rd level.

Student Groups

The Muzium at Destiny USA welcomes educators to get a sneak peek at the Beyond Rubik’s Cube exhibit by offering a Buy One Get One FREE admission to educators (with valid I.D.) The Muzium also offers a comprehensive curriculum-linked school trip opportunities. Field trip packages cost only $5 a student with FREE admission for chaperones and teachers.
