Destiny USA, ACR Health and Hot 107.9 collaborating to raise
$10,000 for the Bubble Blast Run
Destiny USA, ACR Health and Hot 107.9 are partnering to raise $10,000. Hot 107.9’s DJ A.J. will find out just how many friends he has on Saturday, August 2. He will be trapped inside a giant bubble in Destiny USA’s Canyon Area, and we won’t burst the bubble to let him out until he raises $10,000 to benefit two local non-profit organizations.
The Bubble Blast Run takes place on Sunday, August 31 at the Great New York State Fair. Thousands of fair-goers are expected to participate in the Bubble Blast Run, a sudsy, squeaky clean 5K foam obstacle course, featuring an endless stream of bubbles and obstacles like the Human Washing Machine.
"The Bubble Blast Run has the ability to make everybody act like a kid again," Carrie Portzline-Large, Development Director of ACR Health, said. "It's fun to see A.J. from HOT 107.9 getting a head start at that."
Bubble Boy Mania on August 2 will serve as a kick-off event for the Bubble Blast Run, and to help Destiny USA celebrate its two-year anniversary. The shopping, dining and entertainment destination was rebranded from Carousel Center to Destiny USA on August 2, 2012.
“Bubble Boy Mania is a first-of-a-kind for Destiny USA and we’re very excited to host this unique event on our two-year anniversary,” Sara Wallace, Director of Marketing of Destiny USA, said. “We are proud to support an event that’s doing great things for the Syracuse community.”
Come to Destiny USA on Saturday, August 2 to help us burst A.J. out of the gigantic bubble. All of the money raised will go to the Bubble Blast Run, which will donate 100% back to ACR Health and Operation Walk.
To register for the Bubble Blast Run, visit www.bubbleblastrun.com or call 1.800.475.2430. There are a limited number of tickets available.

The participating restaurants are The Melting Pot, P.F. Chang’s, UNO Pizzeria & Grill, Ruby Tuesday, Koto Japanese Steakhouse, Revolutions, Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant, Cantina Laredo, Dave and Buster’s, and Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill.

These offers are meant to provide value and a better experience for all of our guests.”

Destiny USA looks back on the past year and its accomplishments
in tourism, programming and marketing
Destiny USA celebrates its two-year anniversary on Saturday, August 2. The shopping, dining and entertainment destination was rebranded from Carousel Center to Destiny USA on August 2, 2012, after the expansion opened to the public.
It’s been a busy year for Destiny USA between its increased tourism outreach, expanded programming and new marketing initiatives.
Tourism is an important piece to the Syracuse economy. Tourists fill the local hotels and spend thousands of dollars in shopping, dining and entertainment in Syracuse each year.
In the past year, Destiny USA increased its presence at trade and consumer shows by 28%, with representation at major shows in cities across the United States including New York City, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Miami, Orlando, Chicago, Nashville and Boston. International outreach spans as far as Berlin, Vancouver, London, Sao Paulo and Toronto.
Registered tour bus traffic at Destiny USA is up more than 37% year to date with more than 40 new operators sending busloads to the property since last year. Visitation is coming from throughout New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland, plus major cities and small towns throughout Ontario and Quebec. Destiny USA has recently hosted buses of guests from Spain, India, China and Turkey as a result of these efforts.
“We’ve received very positive feedback from both drivers and tour escorts about Destiny USA’s new motor coach lounge on the first level,” Rose Hapanowich, Director of Tourism of Destiny USA, said. “The lounge opened in 2013 and features two TVs, computer, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, comfortable seating and more. It has proven itself to be an important asset, providing an added incentive for those making the decisions as to where their buses end up.”
Destiny USA launched several programs during the past year, including the Summer Fun Day Pass and Tykes Tuesday.
The Summer Fun Day Pass is a voucher booklet that allows guests to enjoy four entertainment venues in one day at a lesser cost. Guests can purchase and redeem their Summer Fun Day Passes until August 31 on the third level of the expansion or at www.destinyusa.com/summer.
Tykes Tuesday is a free children’s program that runs every Tuesday through August 26 from noon to 2 p.m. in the Canyon Area. Each week has a different theme, from Dave and Buster’s Day to Syracuse Chiefs Day. A full calendar of events is available at www.destinyusa.com.
“Destiny USA is more than a place to shop; it’s a place for families to have fun together,” Sara Wallace, Director of Marketing of Destiny USA, said. “We wanted to create these programs to show families that there’s a lot to do at Destiny USA during the summertime, and year-round. The excitement surrounding the Summer Fun Day Pass is showing us that families and friends are looking for more to do, more experiences to have and more memories to create.”
In 2012 and the beginning half of 2013, Destiny USA was mostly focused on the openings of great retail stores, restaurants and entertainment venues in the expansion. With more than 60 new venues to explore, Destiny USA shifted its focus to help market all the unique, new venues to people across New York State, New England and Canada.
Destiny USA is investing advertising funds in major markets including Montreal, Toronto, Albany, Scranton, Rochester and more. In partnership with the Syracuse Convention and Visitors Bureau this year, Destiny USA is raising awareness of the experiences Syracuse has to offer through billboard, radio, online and video advertisements.
“We’re very proud of the many things we’ve accomplished in the past year at Destiny USA,” Rob Schoeneck, General Manager of Destiny USA, said. “Our plan is to continue to make it a destination for friends and family from around the world to shop, dine and play all year round.”
Destiny USA has several great events planned for the weekend of its two-year anniversary, including collaboration between Destiny USA’s restaurants, and a kick-off event for this year’s Bubble Blast Run. Stay tuned for more details on these events in the upcoming week.
Syracuse, NY (June 20, 2014) – Teachers play an important role in shaping the lives of children in the classrooms but sometimes there are children who have a tremendous amount of drive and self-motivation that they acquired on their own. WonderWorks is hosting their first annual WonderKids program, recognizing over 100 students that were nominated by their teachers from the Syracuse City School District for the hard work that they put into their school and surrounding communities. The event has local support and participation from Say Yes to Education, Covanta Energy and Karyn Burns’ ABCs.
Wonderworks Director of Operations Nicole Montgomery stated, “There are students who have not allowed themselves to fall victim to a life-threatening illness or who insist on portraying a positive attitude in spite of situations which make it difficult to wake up and go to school each day. These are the kids we need to thank for inspiring their classmates and their teachers. They teach us dedication, perseverance and that any goal you set for yourself is worth achieving.”
On Saturday, June 21st, teachers, students nominated for the WonderKids program and their families are invited to the WonderKids celebration for a day of fun at WonderWorks in Destiny USA. The program awards those students who portray positive character, efforts in academics and a determination to excel in addition to overcoming a tremendous physical, emotional or environmental obstacle and/or who have made outstanding service contributions to their community.
"These stories of perseverance are an inspiration and we are grateful to WonderWorks for this opportunity to share them with the community," said Lisa Moore, Director of Development, Say Yes Syracuse.
Children who deserve recognition are not only those who achieve good grades or excel on the playing field. You see them every day in the classrooms and wonder what it is that motivates them to strive for excellence and overcome tremendous obstacles. These are WonderKids.
The WonderKids program will start at 9:00am on Saturday, June 21st at WonderWorks on the third level of Destiny USA.
